Amazing Antique Craved Tigers Eye, Depicting Pan on a 22ct Chased Gold Band. Figural Ring. God of Fertility

£780.00
This little cheeky chappy is a Victorian depiction of Pan carved into tigers eye, with splendid bezel set ruby eyes. The carved pan head has been set onto a vintage chased 22ct band, the band is chased with a floral flower and leaf pattern which has worn a little over time giving a lovely patina, a perfect accompaniment to the naturalistic form of the carved pan tigers eye. The tigers eye has a great iridescence to it and changes between a dark brown and honey brown in the light.

Pan was once an incredibly powerful and widely worshipped deity, he was the god of fertility, of the forest and fields and patron of shepherds. With the rise of Christianity however this once powerful and respected god was demonised, his image been drawn upon as the image of the devil. However this somewhat mischievous god was far from being evil. He was a lover of frivolity and pleasure.

A quirky and unusual one of a kind ring. It also looks great in a stack as the carved head is slightly raised from the band meaning other ring slot in underneath or above easily.
